Claire Houghton is a mixed media textile artist and divides her time between Wiltshire and Cornwall. Claire's inspiration is drawn from walks along the Cornish Coastline; from rocky headlands, glistening seas, sweeping bays and ever-changing tidelines. These textile scenes are created using a variety of fabrics, processes and techniques, including dyeing, painting and manipulation.
"Delving into my collection of vintage linen and lace, I enjoy bringing age worn textiles back to life. Layering fabrics onto a base, particular attention is given to colour. More texture is added using free motion machine embroidery and embellishment. The final stage adds hand embroidered detail specific to each composition. In my home-based studio each piece evolves as it is created, making my work original and unique."
